Title: Sporadic E? Post by: W1RKW on May 30, 2013, 04:55:58 PM 10m was open last night and the night before at 1AM. Mostly to the SE US. Signals were strong and somewhat stable unlike what Sporadic E would typically allow. Was it Sporadic E or just a good strong opening.

How do you differentiate between the two? 6 and 10 meters have had single and multi-hop "E" openings for the last several days. 10 meters has propagation from the east coast to Hawaii and Europe as I type with multi-hop "E" skip. 6 has some multi-hop "E" skip from the east coast to Europe as I type. Sporadic E ionization, as least from late Spring to late Summer, can be any time of the day or night, can last for just minutes, or hours, or days. During the Fall and Winter months much of the 10 meter propagation is due to the "F" layer and less with "E" ionization although both can happen at the same time. Mix that with a little bit of auroral propagation and you have some wild times on 6 meters. |
