New Jameco Catalog Cover...

Never seen nuthin' like this...

Things are better if you're one of the crowd.

It's always a tragedy when you arrive late to the swapfest!

I've noticed the recent trend on Jameco's covers...How does this help
marketing? Does this have a "hidden" meaning from the company?

Probably means sales are down.

which might reflect not only economics but how hobbyist experimentation and building is trending due to SMT.

For many years I went to the Dayton Hamvention every year and I was always curious to compare the apparent Hamvention business level to the economic level at the time.  If anything, it seemed to me that during a recession, the Hamvention business went up.  I did know of guys, who while out of work, really dug into hobby work.

BUT, this is the GREAT RECESSION.

Well its clear on the first picture that his mobile rig was top heavy and the second picture is from Near Fest where the man is clearly cupping his hands to warm them. Perhaps moving the Fest up to August would help matters?

In reality the CEO or more likely the spouse has an agenda forcing the publication of this sop  to guilt or ...who knows?  Is there any explanation inside the cover?  Charities mentioned, etc?  I'd like to see the write-off schedule for personal or company contributions.

Avatars are trivial, but the front of such an august and well-liked publication is a serious matter. If there's no tale inside or on the website, maybe someone should politely inquire to "customer service".

I remember very well when you were out of work for quite some time.  You were doing all kind of neat Ham Radio projects while at the same time actually getting on the air a lot more.  Then that darn job came along and naturally things changed!

The cover is the company's artistic expression.  It doesn't have to mean anything but obviously it has done its job of stimulating interest in the company's catalog.  How many other catalog covers have been discussed in this forum?  I'll bet the cover has been discussed in other hobbyist forums too.  Publicity is a good thing when it comes to business.

And they have one of the more easier to read catalogs out there. I got a Mouser catalog (more like a book) and that thing is so full and has such tiny, run-together print that it got tossed on the floor and is now laying in a corner of the room because I'd look through it for an hour and couldn't find what I wanted. Plus that book was three inches thick!

Just inside the catalog, there is an explanation.
