Title: Looking for vintage car radio audio output transformer Post by: WD5JKO on April 12, 2011, 07:50:50 AM Hi, The hybrid car radios from the late 50's started using PNP germanium transistors in the audio section, where a single ended class A audio output stage was often used. Transistors like the 2N176, and DS-501 were used to provide several watts of clean audio. Later when the tubes were phased out, these big PNP germanium output stages continued until the late 1960's. With the single ended PNP Ge topology, there was a tapped auto-transformer to impedance match to the speaker. I am attaching a typical circuit from that era. I am looking for a few of these transformers. Anybody have an old car radio carcass, or one of these transformers in the junk box? Jim WD5JKO |
