Post by: WD8BIL on February 05, 2011, 03:01:27 PM
75M Dipole ready to rock..... again. Just as I was closing up the garage the snow started again. I timed it perfect.

Once it started snowing at 1:00 PM it dumped another foot, at least, before stopping at 7:00PM.
Great time to play radio!!

That should have been my headline comment Bud!  My 75M/80M dipole came down in the big snow storm and I spent a good portion of the day Saturday trying to get an antenna back up.  How frustrating!  I had been looking forward to the AM Xmtr Rally and I was off the air...at least on 75M.  We had about 20" or so of total snow accumulation on the ground and it was lovely antenna installation weather!  The snow was coming down at a pretty good clip Saturday, piling up about 5" on top of the already substantial ground cover.  I spent Saturday morning trying to get the old antenna back up in the tree.  My wife thought I was crazy....I looked like a snowman out there in the blowing snow. I succeeded in getting the line up in the tree....started to pull the antenna up...and the rope broke again!  I felt like I was trudging across the frozen Tundra...wading thru all that snow, but I ended up just building a new inverted vee and hoisting it up the side of the tower to about 65' at the apex.  Finally got back on the air at 4:30 in the afternoon...lost a lot of operating time Saturday, but still had a good time.  Worked both coasts on 75M, so I guess the inv vee is working OK.  Considering the conditions while I was putting it up,  it will probably become a permanent fixture.

Buddly, take a look around for deer wrecking your antenna in retaliation.
