Title: Friedrichshafen Ham Radio 2010

One could only wish for the Dayton Hamvention, HARA Arena, and surrounding area to look like this:

 :o Nooooooooooooooooooo...........!!!

Not for me.
TOO clean, too organized, too sterile.
I think that this tendency (which in moderation is good) toward "organization" got these folks into trouble
a few times??

Thanks, I'll stick to red, white and blue style hamfests, thanks.

Gimme that box of carp under a table at a hamfest any day!!

I bet they don't have leaky roofs, parking lots falling apart, paint pealing off the walls, A/C that may or may not work, zero humidity control, scary restrooms.

Lack of defined organization and lack of personal volunteer commitment got the Hamvention in trouble a few times.

Personally, I'm finding them more and more boring as each year passes. For the hamfests I still attend, if I didn't go as seller, I'd be gone within a half-hour to an hour after I got there.

After dealing with HARA for almost 20 years I gave it up as a waste of time. Besides all the computer garbage, arrogant rent a cops and convention people, the lousy parking, mud, theft, total disregard for fire regulations indoors due to sardine packing it was time to stay closer to NE.

One time I was losing table items indoors and I suspected it was a creep in a wheelchair. When I saw him coming again the next day I sent a helper out in the crowd and to get real close. I couldnt even catch the guy in action but my helper did. He followed him about 20' away from the both and stopped him. The creep started a loud line of complaining and was ceremoniously dumped out of his chair and the booty rolled free, mine and others. All the fussing drew the rent a cops and soon real ones who dumped him in the chair and rolled him away screaming and crying after taking statements. It took almost a year before a package arrived with the stuff I lost both days from the prosecutors office.

Ive been to Friedrichshafen 4 times over the decades, the last being 2005 when I was visiting my son in the USAF. Well run as only the Germans can do things, even the normally unruly Mediteranean countries and East Europeans were under control ;D Note Im not picking on any particular ethnic group..... 8). I just might go next year as that same son is back in Germany.

Funny thing, that seems to be true of gun shows also.
Not many people getting unruly or stuffing things in thier pants at those shows though.... 8)
