Title: AM Rally "Results" Post by: WA2ROC on February 08, 2010, 12:33:59 PM I know it is too early to have complete results, but where will those results be posted?
I had a great time and thanks go out to Jack W9GT (aka W9T) for being the "Ringmaster" Saturday evening on 3975. Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: N3DRB The Derb on February 08, 2010, 01:17:22 PM I gotta enter in my log in the komputer and send it out today.
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: Todd, KA1KAQ on February 08, 2010, 01:41:23 PM We're still tabulating the W3Z contacts. Steve only posted the ones completed using left-handed logging with one eye covered. We know we'll 'win' since we started making contacts three days earlier. ;D
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: K1JJ on February 08, 2010, 01:48:46 PM It will be tough to beat the "Ladies" holding court on 3885 from beginning to end...
Though, Steve worked Jacckko, OH1TX in Finland. That counts for 5000 contact points, I think. T Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: N3DRB The Derb on February 08, 2010, 01:54:17 PM Todd
how did Richmond turn out? We were under 30" so I wuz house bound. We'll see U an Huz later on this year. :D Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: Todd, KA1KAQ on February 08, 2010, 01:58:20 PM It was a ghost town Derb, so you missed nothing but a super clean HQ-150 and matching speaker that I took home with me. Of course, I also took it there to sell, which kinda takes away from that feeling of a great find. ;) Steve had mentioned that the tables had basically sold out ahead of time, but I bet no more than a quarter of them were actually occupied. You did better staying home and playing radio. We were just too damned stubborn to not go. Steve actually sold a couple items, though.
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: W9GT on February 08, 2010, 02:01:56 PM Todd and Steve are going to multiply ther contacts by two, since they were both operating. I think, however, stations who worked them should be able to count two contacts. ;D
73, Jack, W9GT Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: Todd, KA1KAQ on February 08, 2010, 02:19:03 PM I was running station 2 on 10 meters and station 3 on 6&2m. Simultaneously. We really piled up the 'points', H-I. ;D
Steve did run a bunch of DX AM stations, including at least 4 from Europe. It was impressive to see instantaneous comparisons between the Beverage, K9AY loop, and dipoles. Actually, 'incredible' would be more accurate. The way those signals came up and the noise dropped was hard to believe. You had quite a pileup running when we worked you, Jack. When someone is running a list, you know it's busy! Hope you had as much fun as we did. Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: WA1GFZ on February 08, 2010, 03:58:55 PM I remember a big round table I was in. I took down 1 call so I remembered who to turn it over to after an old buzzard. I think the girls won.
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: W1RKW on February 08, 2010, 04:11:34 PM One of the many difficulties of the event I experienced was RF feedback . Does a contact with ones self count as an unusual contact? ???
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: WB2EMS on February 08, 2010, 05:02:48 PM We had fun. I took a QRP'er ham buddy out to my cabin in the woods to participate in the Arizona Scorpions FYBO (Freeze Your 'Boots' Off) QRP event. It was 17F in there when we started - the multiplier is based on the *lowest* temp at the operating position. We were running an ICOM 703 on cw up on 20 meters.
Anyway, for fun, I tuned down to 3885 to show him the other event that was going on, and he was hooked! We ended up working 'the girls' and a few others on frequency with 2.5 watts carrier power! He spent most of an hour tuning up and down 75 meters listening to the goings on on all the various AM gatherings up and down the band and was totally enthralled. He went off talking about finding an AM transmitter at the upcoming hamfest! I will continue to stoke the fire ignited by our participation. ;D Lots of fun. I was amazed how well we were heard with our PW rig and the ZS6BKW antenna. Can't wait till next year. Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: K9PNP on February 08, 2010, 06:27:45 PM From the signals and rigs I heard, I think I was the "QRP" station. AF-68/PMR-8' 50 W. Finally got the HQ-110A and Viking II running too late in the day. The most AM stations I have heard for some time. Good deal all around. And gentlemen/ladies all; but don't tell some of them, might hurt their feelings.
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: N3DRB The Derb on February 08, 2010, 07:21:49 PM yeah, i think the girls 'won' , but the real winner was AM.
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: steve_qix on February 08, 2010, 10:53:53 PM Yes, please send those logs in to: amtr@radioassociates.com (excel or .CSV format).
I figure about 2 weeks for everyone to get their logs in, and then tally the results. Should be interesting ! Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: WA1LGQ on February 09, 2010, 06:07:05 AM 2.5 watts sure beats my 10 watts with the GRC-9 for QRP Kevin, I concede................Larry
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: WB2EMS on February 09, 2010, 01:56:11 PM We might be equal. It's 10 watts PEP, 2.5 watts carrier.
I've operated from there a couple of times now with that rig on AM and have been quite impressed with how well it's heard. The antenna is a zs6bkw doublet - similar to a G5RV but matches better on most bands. It' s only at about 25 feet, but seems to do pretty well. Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: W1AEX on February 09, 2010, 06:24:10 PM Larry, that GRC-9 was a treat to listen to, even if it didn't have the fully authentic sound of a 24 volt dynamotor grinding away in the background. Nice job getting it up and running!
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: k4kyv on February 11, 2010, 05:03:20 PM I hand-logged about 21 stations, but will probably not get up the scrote to re-type all the data entered in the log sheet in order to send it in.
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: W2XR on February 11, 2010, 06:01:10 PM I hand-logged about 21 stations, but will probably not get up the scrote to re-type all the data entered in the log sheet in order to send it in. I worked 21 stations. I will most likely not be submitting my contest log either. I really just enjoyed the pleasure of making the contacts, some old and some new. I'm curious as to how many stations KC2UFU and WX3K worked. It seemed they were always in contact with a different op, from the beginning of the contest until the end. 73, Bruce Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: KB2WIG on February 11, 2010, 11:13:34 PM I made two contacts untill the Ranger craped out... the coupling shaft fell out of its coupling and shorted into the 1st audio amp. Bummer. Got the ricebox going and made a few more.... klc
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: ke7trp on February 12, 2010, 01:42:16 AM Steve. Can you please reply that you got the logs when you download them. I sent mine and have to wonder if you got them. Others where on the air asking the same thing.
C Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: N3DRB The Derb on February 12, 2010, 05:21:40 AM I did 31 stations, tried to enter em in this morning but the head does not approve of the detailed entry work. I think I will have to get good and stoned first. :(
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: W9GT on February 12, 2010, 09:37:39 AM I had to send in hand written log...had computer problems. Sorry Steve, but I didn't have 400 contacts, so shouldn't be too bad

I sent mine and have to wonder if you got them. Others where on the air asking the same thing. C Done ;) Everyone who sent a log was replied to via Email. If someone is reading this and has NOT sent in a log, please do so even if you only made a few contacts. We need input on "special" nominations, unusual things heard, and of course who you worked. Thanks so much and Regards, Steve Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: ke7trp on February 12, 2010, 05:33:05 PM I sent it for the second time just now. Let me know if you get it. I can just post it here if you want.

If you kept a log during the AM transmitter rally, send it in :D I would like to tally the results, and the more input - the better! Thanks ;) Steve Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: N3DRB The Derb on February 18, 2010, 10:02:37 AM ok, lemme get good and buzzed n I'll enter and send it in a bit.
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: k4kyv on February 18, 2010, 12:58:04 PM I have 21 contacts logged in, but admittedly am too scroteless to re-type the data. Would you be interested if I scanned the sheet and sent it in PDF form?
Title: Re: AM Rally "Results" Post by: N3DRB The Derb on February 18, 2010, 04:01:40 PM just sent in my log 2 minutes ago.
