Title: 120x240 to 4160V 10KVA dry transformer ?
Post by: Opcom on August 28, 2009, 12:03:40 AM
There is a 4160V open frame GE transformer rated 10KVA (8.6KVA @ 55 DEG C for the buzzards) with 120/240 dual windings on one side and a 4160V HV winding potted in epoxy, taps adjust high voltage +/-7.5%. 250 LBs. Mounts easily by flanges on core. Can do bridge or FWCT. This is in a surplus warehouse in FW TX and been there a while. I would be able to test it by connecting the 120V windings to power. The intention was for the HV side to be the primary and the LV side to be secondary but no reason it should not work the other way. The primary is wound close to the core, secondary is a big potted item around it. many KV insulation pri-sec. This is not a for sale ad, but If anyone is genuinely interested I could make inquiries and it might come rather reasonable. It's nice and compact for the KVA rating.

Are you sure that each side of the split HV winding runs the same voltage, so you could tie them together to form a midtap?

Nice beast. Epoxy is nice since it is usually potted in a vacuum. Sure looks like a center tap to me at 1-2. IF the 120 volt windings draw too much current you could always sneak a couple turns around the core in series to drop it a bit at the expense of a few output volts.

I'm not positive about the mid tap on the HV winding, that is I have not tested it.

Patrick, I'm interested. If you make the trip to Santa Fe to pick up the big capacitor, you could snag that for me and I would be greatly happier. Big Iron makes my day, and keeps my shed from floating away out here in the desert.
