Title: Sunday Morning on the Low Bands
Post by: Tom WA3KLR on September 23, 2007, 08:43:51 AM
Sunday morning 8:30 a.m.

I just finished a 160 meter phone QSO and tuned across the 75/80 meter phone band.

I hear AM QSOs on 3835, 3856, 3873, 3880, 3885, and 3890.  Very good!

It would be nice to hear AM activity in the 36xx and 37xx area too.

So, go down there, fire up, and call CQ! :-)

Lots of people tune around to listen, but few are willing to talk, unless they hear someone else starting the talking.  Joiners, I call 'em.  Be a Starter!

Activity on 3705 starting Sat. evening until will past midnight.   Long QSO with WA9ZTF, followed by W3GL and VA3DZ.

We heard some weak AM stations in the background, apparently the AM crew in the Netherlands.  But never could get enough of a readable signal to verify any callsigns.

Later on, I tuned down to the low end of the band and heard the French-speaking  AM group, which was on 3543 instead of 3550 where I have heard them for years.  Again, the signals were too weak to ID any callsigns.

I tried listening tonight but that line of thunderstorms running all the way from Mexico to Canada pretty much has the band on the rag.
