The late George Mouridian W1GAC used to sign off in a standard sort of way at night. This example, recorded in 1991, was under some really good conditions. Thanks to Vin WA2VXO, listening on an SP200 for this recording.
I figured out from the sound of the kerchunk on key-up, and the type of blower noise, that I was running the homebrew transmitter. A pair of 7527A modulated by 810s. This is the rig I presently have on 10m, waiting for Cycle 24 to get going. During Cycle 23 this transmitter worked very well -- couple hundred watts on 10m and just poking through it all, throughout Europe on wholesome AM. I wish George was gonna be around to enjoy the next one with us.
