Last weekend Phillip, WVØT rescued a 1950s vintage Collins 300-J.
This is the 250 Watt version of the 20V2, with a pair of 4-125 modulating a pair.

More pictures here. Way to go, Phillip !!!

I rescued a 300J-2 this past weekend from a small station in Kansas.
The engineer only had a partial manual for it.  Does anyone happen to
have a copy?  I am missing part of chapter 6 (illustrations) and all of
chapter 7 (diagrams).  Chapter seven has the schematics.

The photos have moved.  They are now at http://www.seidkr.com/gallery/v/Philip-Pics/Collins_300J2/

I have found a schematic.  Barry Mishkind of oldradio.com pointed me to a copy of the schematic on that website.  The URL is http://www.oldradio.com/archives/hardware/Collins/300J-2_skim.pdf

Now on to cleaning it up and getting it on 160M.

A big thank you to Rod Zeigler, Chief Engineer, of KABI for making this transmitter available.  It was on the air up until July of 2005.

Thanks, Philip

I'd also like to thank my crew:

Jeremiah Hall KCØVTJ
Doug Hall KCØVQN
Jake McConnell KCØVOS

There nothing quite like loading up a 900 pound transmitter in 104 degree heat in the middle of a Kansas cow field in July.

Phillip, welcome to the board and I hope to see more of the big project.

You've probably seen the front page of amfone.net and how we set it aside for feature stories with photos.

Would you please consider writing something up that we could share with others like the one with Mark, K3MSB?

Looks like you've got all the material already.

Good luck,

If anyone is interested there is a 1949 Western Electric 405B-2 5KW transmitter available from a sister station to KABI.  Email me privately for contact info.
