AM transmitter destroyed in fire

As some of you may have seen locally on NBC 40 this morning, we have suffered a fire at our main transmitter site.  Thankfully, no one was injured in this fire. 

However, we have lost the equipment that puts our signal on the air for WOND (1400am).  It will be replaced as soon as possible.

We will continue to broadcast through our LIVE web link.

Sounds like a sad loss of some good equipment. Wonder if the transmitters were completely  burned and melted beyond any chance of salvage or repair ? If it was an inferno probably not. Few things can survive the high temps of a raging inferno.  A sad loss. Glad to hear noone was hurt or killed.

I used to visit that shack as a teenager - WOND AM was a top 40 station, and WMGM FM was the local AOR gig, competing nicely (at the time) with WMMR in Phila. The studios, transmitters and office were all crammed into that little building! When there was a storm, the employees had to drive through flooded marsh to get to work. Visiting there changed the direction of my life -. I was interested in broadcasting, but quickly discovered those guys made almost no money, save for local sock-hops.
