Can someone explain why recently each forum does not sort with the most recent posts on top?

Even when I click to sort by most recent posts, there seem to be a few that would not belong there that creep in ahead of the most recent posts.

HI Dave

It sounds like two things might help you.

First of there a few posts that have been labeled stickies so they will remain at the top.

Next you can go into your profile, then in the left hand column select"looks and layout settings".
Once there make sure you have the line that reads - most recent topics on top- checked .  Save your settings at the bottom of the page and you should be all set.
Both of these are for sorting the actual list of posts to a topic.

If you wish to sort the topics you can just click on arrow at the top of the "LAST POST" column.

I hope this helps some
