You mean the Grand Funk comment?... Paul, I told you to stay away from the brown acid!  Grin

WB6ACU's old band was "James Gang"..... Unless Mark Farner of Grand Funk is also a Ham with deep pockets who bids on expensive boat anchors.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

My old band got together at an outdoor jam this past weekend, upstate NY and we jammed-out
on "Funk 49".....

Yea, I saw that auction..  Huh awful lot of money for black wrinkle!  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

and..............Grand Funk Railroad!!! (huh?) Huh

I see where you're going with that, Glenn.  You're hoping a certain guitar player out on the west coast reads that and is so happy you remembered his old band that he'll let you win the RCA ACT-40 auction on epay.

Oops. The brown acid must've affected my long term memory.  I think it did something else, but I can't remember what.

Well I was gratified to see at least one person nominating Bob Zimmerman as a great. I also like Arlo Gutherie as a performer. I have been trying to learn his song, "Alice's Restaurant" but it is sooo long  and my mind isn't what it used to be.
How about the Bostown Sound?
Ultimate Spinach
Beacon Street Union
Orpheus
Then there was the local Surf Nantasket Bands
The one that was already menioned and
The Mods
The Ramrods
The Techniques
The Pilgrims
Utopia
Shanana

A similar venue was the Rexacana in Marshfield.

As a student at Kent Sate back in the late 60's early 70's,  I remember The James Gang  would occasionally play for free at the Student Union (at least I never paid). Don't know if WB6ACU was a student there or not.

Well I was gratified to see at least one person nominating Bob Zimmerman as a great.

I tried to do a list of what I think are his top ten tunes but the list just keeps growing.

In no particular order:

1) Don't Think Twice It's All Right
2) Forever Young
3) Like a Rolling Stone
4) Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat
5) It Takes a Lot to Laugh it Takes a Train to Cry
6) Ballad of a Thin Man
7) Masters of War (IMHO, the greatest anti-war song of all time - if that's what your in to)
Cool Desolation Row
9) Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues
10) A Hard Rains a Gonna Fall
11) Positively 4th Street
12) It's All Right Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
13) All Along the Watchtower

I could go on & on

Paul - Do you remember the auction on epay a while ago where someone in the UK had a "ACT-20" and a National NC-200 with speaker? I took a chance and bidded on it and won the auction. I want a ACT-20 so bad I can taste it! Apparently the ACT-20 was put in storage in September, 1939, and the NC-200 a little after.

I got a tip from DeWitt, N4QNX about teh ACT-20 since I rarely cruise epay stuff. Since it was in the UK it paid off.

The seller stated he won't ship, but am making arrangements with him to get the stuff packed and shipped to me. I'll let you know how I make out.

I have no idea what shape it's in, etc other than the pics on epay. It looks like it's never been used on the outside.

The Grateful Dead for heaven's sake.

For the longest time they were the biggest drawing band by a country mile.  I bet they still hold the record.

Keep on truckin'

We forgot the late Marvin Pontiac.
http://www.strangeandbeautiful.com/marvin/

Marvin penned a song Bring Me Rocks, with this line,
"My penis has a face and likes to bark at Germans."

His influence was diverse and wide-ranging.

Very perceptive of you, Glenn.  It's a little known fact that in the very early 1980s, Osama was frontman for a Marvin Pontiac tribute band.  His unique physical resemblance to Pontiac made him a logical choice to front the band which was called Morphin Panic-attack.   Osama went by the stage name Coupe deVille and the band used to travel to their gigs in a renovated Oscar Meyer Wienermobile.

Then suddenly Osama got religion. After he demanded the band abandon the Wienermobile because it wasn't Halal, the other members kicked him out.  Osama has had it in for Americans ever since.
