All the talk of the adverse effects of MSG and other chemicals raises another  interesting issue. The idea of genetically Modified crops. Cutting specific genes from one speciaes of plant or animal  and splicing them into a plant to creat a modified foerm of  the plant that might be more resistant to bugs, might have a sweeter taste, or a tougher outer skin or more colour. While these genetic modifications are pleasing to the food industry some people  speculate that genetically engineered foods may present some long term health risks. To make matters worst some ill health effects might not show themselves for years and years after the modified food was consumed. Among the more commonly genetically modified crops these days is corn and soy. However many other crops are modified as well.

While the science of genetics is a fascinating field and should be persued scientifically the actions of corporations jumping the gun rushing to apply these new technologies to increase their profits and gain higher overall ROI may have some negative consequences with respect to public health.

In any  event, amidts all the hormones and  chemicals routinely added to our food supply, genetic modifiication is yet another thing we need to keep our eyes on...
