As stated in our Announcements Section,
http://amfone.net/Amforum/index.php?topic=47408.0
Pete, W1VZR has passed.
Just several weeks ago it seems, I had a great contact with Pete on AM down on the low end of 75/80 meters. Over the years, also worked him on 6 meters. Always fun to talk with.

Pete's Obituary is here:

Pete, the Visitor...  He had a great sense of humor. A very funny guy.  A talented technician.

He tells the story where he was working on an FT-101.  After much aggravating time troubleshooting, he shorted out the 12 volt mobile supply transistors on the back of the rig by mistake. He got so POed he grabbed the cord on the back and swung it around his head and let the rig fly in the back yard...  too funny.

Rest in peace, Pete.

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth  +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed.  Easily done in DSP.

I did the Pete, W1VZR audio mods, to my first Valiant,  published in the AM press exchange,  in the early
1980’s.  As a JN, this was all new to me, and a great learning experience. It was  a
pleasure  being able to to hear and talk to Pete, on the air, he will be missed…

So sorry to hear the news about Pete.  We have not chatted in a very long time, but many years ago we had a lot of great QSO's.  I remember him talking about some great audio mods on his vintage gear.  His on air signal always had a very clean low end.

Wishing all his family and friends all the courage as they mourn his passing.  Keep those memories with him alive.

Folks:

So sorry to hear of Pete's passing. I worked him on 75M AM about a month ago, and when I first got on AM from New Orleans around 1980 used to work him on a hot 10M.

Rest in Peace Pete and thank you, and know there are plenty of 6AQ5s for your cake-pan transmitter in heaven.

I didn't know him. I wish I had. I can only echo Fred's sentiments including the loss of more and more of the Gentlemen of AM.
