I found a ground rod under the house in the crawl space near the electrical entrance panel. The house was remodeled past it. There it sits, not connected. Should I bond it to the service panel?

What’s there now: a Ufer ground connection right at the electrical service panel,  a run of #4 bare copper to the water service from the street which is, indeed, copper, not part PVC. This connection is just outside the house. Right there is my antenna entrance panel, bonded to that #4 with surge protectors on the coax. The house does not have a perimeter ground. And, of course, this area is essentially lightning free.

Since I’m always looking for an excuse to crawl on my belly through the dirt and debris, I thought maybe I’d hook that old ground rod up. Would it be a bad idea?

Grounding and bonding must be done from a single point.
This article explains it pretty well and the ARRL sells a book on it.

This is unimportant until you get a hit or a huge surge- not the same thing…

Edit: Best to bring in feedlines to the common mode- not separately or you just provide a loop of destruction…

Thanks for the article. I like the diagrams. I'll read the text carefully. Indeed, I have the ARRL book.
