« on: October 11, 2021, 02:28:02 PM »

Ok, so the news you have all been waiting for! (not) I, aka the Bear, will
be at NEARFEST Fryday only.

IF any of you wish to make an "eyeball" for certain, please email me, or PM me!

I will be bringing some gear.
May or may not be of interest to some.
No junk, no "it worked the last time that it worked"...

Preview:
(should have) Globe King 500, by WRL.
R-390A checked out, running, good condition.
HRO-60 with drawers, good condition.
GPR-90 in case, WITH Speaker
2 x SP 600, one working ok, the other working need TLC (blue light specials!)
Collins TUNER - the military one (I'll have to look at the tag)
Gates or RCA rack mount mod monitor
Other "stuff" to be named at a later date!

Anyone who is so inclined please email me - the email with this account is good.
As it me on QRZ.

Hope to see YOU there!

I'll be there with a passel of premium receivers - Cubic R-3030, Harris RF-590, Collins 651S-1, dual Racal 6830 rack, a nice 75A3, a Collins commercial 10KW(!) tuner, and a McKay DR33 with all Collins mechanical filters fitted.

TNX to Mr Mike and crew for putting on the best hamfest in the US!

I'll be there with a nice NC-190 with matching speaker, a Millen 90800 exciter, 90831 modulator, and a Viking I that needs a LV power transformer.

Afaik, local headhunters round up AM operators and throw them into a pot, boil and eat them.

Best ask one of the many AMers, they go out for a dinner on Fryday evening at a local
restaurant - not sure which one it will be this time. Someone should come in here and
say, I expect?

So, everything went south, went sideways.

Thursday I was wiped out, beat, paralyzed, exhausted, craptout.
Been fighting Lyme symptoms, again, and had started antibiotics back on Sunday.
Felt fine.

Until Thursday.

Started the day ok, loading the car.
Then... wooomp.

Energy depleted, a Timtron "NiCad" bottom out.

I realized, no way. Not possible.

Symptoms decreasing today, but slept all afternoon.
Of course, I had deals set up and people bringing stuff, and I am sure that this
was a banner event. Been looking forward to it since before Covid.

Hope there are good pix to see.

So sorry you were not feeling well Bear.  Well, get ready for Spring NEAR-Fest and we will see you then!

For other reasons, we were not able to attend this year.  I was really bummed out since I have looking forward to the return of NEAR-Fest.

Hopefully all those that made it had a great time.

Sorry you couldn't make it, Bear, but at least you're feeling better. I kept an eye out for you just in case.
Turnout was better than I can remember - they even opened up two additional food booths, which was cool. If they open up the Polish Kitchen again in the spring, I'm going to try that one.
I met more AM'ers at this Nearfest than at any other, though based on what I heard on Sunday morning's AM Carrier net, I missed a lot, too. It's tough, really; unless we're all wearing our calls in big block letters on our shirts, we never connect. But still, made a good number of first-time meets.
Came away with some great finds. My regular 6 meter AM rig is the Zeus/Interceptor, and I always figured I'd like to find another, as a backup. On Friday I came home with two Zeus and one Interceptor, and a power supply/modulator.
A nice mod reactor and a big plate transformer followed; some assorted tubes and sockets, nice bench supplies, and an old industrial or medical amplifier chassis, complete with 3-400 tubes and chimneys and excellent gear-driven air variables. I'm thinking I can shoehorn three 3-500Z's in there, with a little drilling and blasting.
Also came away with two Heath HX-30 6 meter AM/SSB transmitters. Anyone know anything about those rigs? The web has been largely purged of Heath documentation.
And a Nearfest bonus: there was a big camper down near the bathroom, with a big spread of tables around it, a pair of speakers on the roof; playing some of the most awesome Jazz I've ever heard. Complimented the guy on his musical taste, and found out the name of the group: Tuba Skinny. I downloaded three of their albums Sunday morning. Not every treasure you bring home from Nearfest is tangible hardware.

My first Nearfest, definitely not my last! Came home with several things I was looking for and some things I didn’t need. Met several people, including Tim! I also got to meet up with a friend I’ve know for almost 50 years. Last time we saw each other was about 25 years ago

I was able to be there Friday, my first time. I was able to squeeze it in between things while on a trip to NYC with my wife to see Broadway shows -- really the only way I could make it happen.

Seemed like a big shindig, saw lots of stuff I could use, but resisted buying most of it. Saw a couple people whose calls I recognized, nice conversations with a few people. I am lousy with names and calls, so I can't say who really well.

If I can, I'll attend again!
