I just read that Sennheiser was sold to a hearing aid company. It makes me wonder what will happen to the legendary name.

I believe Sennheiser is intact, and the name and their professional products will live on.  As I understand it, they have divested only the Consumer Electronics Division, often referred to as the "headphone business".

Even though they had record sales in that division, profit margins were slim.  Here is what I read in a news release recently:

"Sonova is taking over Sennheiser’s portfolio of consumer headphones, wireless earbuds, and soundbars, moving into an expanding market for personal audio equipment".
