CDE Orange Drop Fakes or Rejects?

I like using CDE orange drops for my restorations.  Recently got a bunch from a Taiwan source and they look odd, like maybe quality rejects or fakes.  Almost every one I received has these odd tiny holes on the sides, some only 1 others as many as 3 on one side as shown in the attached pix.  Has anyone see this before?

The cap you pictured is a .47mfd at 400v.  They look real but the holes call into question if they are rejects.  Never saw any with those holes.  Do the holes reach into the cap foils.  If not I would use them.

I'll take a look at some of my orange drops later and let you know.

If you have a lot of them check them on the ESR. Then do a destructive test crank up the voltage till they fail.  When I buy a large quantity of parts I like to run them through the wringer and see just what I bought. You only have to kill one cap if you bought a lot no big loss.

It could be the encapsulation machine that  puts on the orange epoxy could be doing it. Or these are considered cosmetic defects (for whatever reason) from the original manufacturer, but still passed all specs, and were just dumped on the Far East secondary market at a good price. Why not just call or e-mail CDE in MA and asked them.
