Dateline Washington  April 1, 2021:   The FCC recently put out a request to all Radio Amateurs for new questions to add to the license exam pool. The FCC has adopted many new ones, notably several related to the AM mode.

Here are a few that will soon appear on the new General and Extra Class license tests:


Question:  AM Audio Technical -    When using the AM mode, what is the best polarity or phase to set your microphone for maximum positive peaks?

A) Phase A
B) Phase B
C) No Phase
D) All Phase

Answer:  B



Question:  AM Ancient History-   When Irb W2VJZ was eating lunch on 75M AM, what was the most prominent sound in the background?

A) Chimes
B) Washing pots and pans
C) Whistling the Battle Hymn of the Republic
D) All of the above

Answer: D



Question:  Popular AM Gurus -     When the Tim Tron, WA1HLR, wants to make a point, what is his best technique?

A.) The peak Envelope Power in either sideband is measured.
B.) The power in the unmodulated carrier is measured.
C.) The signal is no greater than 8 vertical divisions on the modulation monitor.
D.) The time taken to cook a Standard FCC Hoagie between the plates of a Type 420 Capacitor is measured, and divided by the operating frequency in kilocycles.

A.  Power generator
B.  Battery powered station
C.  2M repeater access
D.  An AM receiver with CONELRAD

Answer:  D   (If the receiver doesn't have CONELRAD it ain't worth sh*t!)

Question: AM Operating Procedures - When operating in a Round Table, how should I Zero-Beat  my VFO?

A) Any clear spot in the band is OK-Fine.
B) Try to be on the same frequency as everyone else - synchronous detectors love this!
C) What is Zero Beat, anyway?HuhHuhHuh?
D) Spread out in 5 KHz increments, and take ownership of the entire Ghetto.
E) Who could ever afford a synchronous detector?

Answer: ALL of the above, or NONE of the above, depending upon who you talk to.

B) Uranium 269 embedded in silly putty
C) Some strange exotic form of 'olene
D) No fuel at all, it was purely organic in its functionality

Answer: None of the above.  It GENERATES the exotic 'olene!

None of these answers are correct.  A Slime-O-Tron is used in the manufacture of Heavy Piss-O-Lene.
