Maybe the market for huge heavy signal channel radio transmitters is drying up? Like the market for R-390A receivers. At one time you had people selling R-390A receivers for $500 to $700 and today its hard to get more then $250 to $275.00 unless its completely rebuilt and then you not going to recover the money you spent on redoing the front panel and the like. I worked on 20V transmitters in Broadcast service and was never that impressed, I always liked the RCA and Gates/Harris stuff at least in broadcast service. I had a RCA MX that I went thru, installed a bunch of new components including a set of new modulators and PA 833 tubes and had it operational on 1885 for a couple years and sold that entire lot including transmitter, Volumax compressor limiter and General Radio modulation monitor for just over $1,000.00 everything working with full documentation and that took about two years to sell.
Over the years have had several old Gates AM transmitters that Hams would tell me they want but at the end of the day when they show up and see what’s involved in moving it and what it will take to get it on the air they all most always back out, so I would not be surprised if it were still there and at $700. Think if you showed up with a truck and $500 cash you would be driving away with it.

I think about what my 'heirs' may have to do once I am one with the aether. While getting the gear out that I purchased from Joe, N3IBX(SK) estate, I contemplated how they would get the Gates BC-1T out of his basement. I'm sure that it met its fate with the sawzall. We struggled quite a bit getting the BC-610 out and that was as much that 4 people could muster! These are the apex of boatanchor transmitters. So I think you could get them cheaper. At one time I was hunting for an RCA BTA-500MX. But like stated previously, I didn't want to laden my heirs with the job of selling it let alone remove it from the basement.
