Came across a demo of the Brit Coles noise canceling lip microphone:

http://www.coleselectroacoustics.com/microphones/4104-commentators-microphone

In this video:

Amazing speech quality considering it was acquired in an open cockpit D Type Jag ripping around LeMans in 1956 during pre race practice laps.  Even more amazing is that the course was not closed to normal traffic at the time!

The Coles mic is still being  manufactured, available with push-to-talk switch!

Great audio, with a touch of ignition noise. More interesting to me (a former and about to reboot) road racer was a look into going 180 and cornering on bias ply tires with 6 inch treads. No safety equipment, just big brass balls. A lot of those guys died on the track. I wrestled 3800 pound American cars around autocross and road courses in the 70's/80's and it was a lot of work to say the least. That little D type looks like it was a joy to drive. See you all at Lime Rock Ct. in the spring!
