I noticed last night that sigs last night had a very rapid QSB and sounded quite weak.
I have heard solar flares and the "watery" sound, never heard anything like last night.

Even the AM broadcast band was effected, WKBW was very hard copy.

Did we have a solar flare and if so is there a quick place to check this?

Anyone else notice this?

Tnx,

This is a good place to check these things out - what you described is typical of a geomagnetic storm, but the Kp index has been very low!  Storm levels are defined as 5 and above (max of 9.

Just  realized that the latest info on the link is about 23 hours old - so what you observed is not reflected in the data.  Usually that page is updated at least hurly.  They do mention some effect of a CME coming our way that may have been the source of what you observed.

The auroral map is interesting:

...as are the 3 day and 6 hour Xray flux plots:

Also, the MAG plots can indicate things that might be going on, as well:

Hi Glen,

Yes, last night was not as bad as Saurday, but still sounded quite odd.

Still not sure if it is a solar flare thing or just unusual propagation.

Some said they heard DX on the high bands, did not note that, but then again I was really just tuning 40 and down.

Sigs sound strapping tonight, but 160 meters seems dead here, very ood.
Wonder if this a regional thing or what?
