Restoring some  "sixers" and  a HW-29 seems to have the A modification. I would like to find the manual for this mod. I think it was listed as a HW-29-1, not sure of there part #.
 Any help would be appreciated.

Many of the Heathkit manuals may be downloaded from this resource:

https://www.vintage-radio.info/heathkit/

I do not know if this is exactly what you are looking for, but the HW-29A manual is located here:

https://www.vintage-radio.info/download.php?id=151

(It can also be located by browsing down the list to the HW series rigs.)

GL, hope this is helpful......

Rich,
thanks for the reply, I have the manuals for both the HW-29 and the HW-29A but nothing on this upgrade? By the way we both born in 1947, I hope your aches are small hihi.

Heathkit created a modification kit and manual called the HW-29-1.
It basically makes a HW-29 a HW-29A.

The main difference that I remember was that the HW-29 used fundamental 50 MHz crystals. Heath then modified the HW-29 to accept 8 MHz crystals and created the HW-29A. So, if you're creative, that's probably the main difference.

Pete,
Thanks for the info about the xtal.
My first store bought rig was a Lafayette He-35, which I still have used a 50.2 Mhz crystal.
