Back in 2002, 18 years ago now, myself and Steve W2TRH went out near Rome NY to Ralph, W2WZQ's QTH
to pick up a pair of BC-610s that were under a tarp and out in a field on pallets...

Well the one which is facing the camera is probably a C or D model. It could also be an A or B model but I never heard of anyone in my fifty years or so of ham-boning, either owning one or seeing one of those rare models.

I sold MY C model about ten years ago but the D model is my everyday transmitter when I am around it everyday...........Some days I am not around it. Thought you might like to know that!

BTW, Steve looks about 75 pounds lighter and Bear looks a bit younger but otherwise, the same...........

PS: I just received an update from my brain, The transmitter facing the camera is a C model. D models have the fuses in front whereas the C model fuses are in the back.

Yeah... thanks Terry!

I really loved the way they were styled.

Doing them up would have just been too too too much work and time for me,
given that I was scrapping to keep my head above water back then.

DRAT!

That IS the EFFECT!

They're so rattled and gobsmacked that they walk around, lost in a fog, for hours
afterwards!!

Now that I looked at the picture of them laying on their backs in the van, the one up front is a D model and the rear most xmitter is a C model. The C model is probably from around 1941 and the D model is from 1943. I originally got this information from Herb K2VH who is out there somewhere but not on the air since his wife passed away approx 10 years ago. I miss talking with him....

Bear,
You seem to have all the cool stuff !!
Those BC-610's are awesome. Your rack receivers are beautiful and I love the panadapter, etc...
It looks like not only do you have the cool stuff, but very cool friends also, thats great.
Some years back I was given:   a van load and pickup load of vintage console radio's, tubes and stuff, a fun roadtrip,
So, I know how exciting and fun those trips are.
Great pictures, thanks for posting them.

Thanks, but frankly, I don't really have that much "cool stuff"... I know of maybe a dozen
hams whose "stuff" makes my "stuff" look like bush league!!

I do like to take pictures though. I don't really do it enough. The interesting thing is
that if one is good at picture taking, it makes things look WAY BETTER than they
really are or were!! Telling a story in pictures is good...

But this was a fun trip. The van sat LOW on the way back.
As I mentioned, both went bye-bye a few years later, after it became obvious to me
that I'd never get around to doing the complete strip down and repaint that they needed.

I have to ask, the two spray cans there with the units.. what chemicals were included? Surely not rustoleum!  Lips sealed
