Hello --

As I consider many D/E amps/transmitters for experimenting, I keep looking at the BOM cost. The FETs are cheap, compared to the magnetics and MLCC capacitors. I added up a particular circuit the other day -- $20 in silicon, $64 in ferrite, $120 in ATC capacitors.  This seems kind of backwards to me, maybe there are better sources than the standard parts houses (digikey/nouser/newark, and kitsandparts/amidon/amazon for ferrite).

Who's got the line on lower cost passive parts??

Things do add up I must admit....
I tend to buy in small amounts building up on stock so I always have parts available....particularly if there is free delivery involved....
Take Rods TX...appox $ only...

PCB                                  $  4-
2 IXDDs                            $14-
4 FETS                              $24-     CREE C3M0280090D
2 T106-2                           $  6-
4 Dipped Silver mica caps   $20-
Poly Caps                          bought millions from ebay

LPF 7 pole
4 T106-2                           $ 12-
3 Russian Glass things        $   8-

Hmmm about $100- ..... never thought about it really .......

However its a powerful Transmitter ... probably in the 300-400 Watt mark.....


Still quite cheap though....

Shane, google was much faster once I tried metalworks amateur radio...KF7P...  :-)

Wayne, yeah, $100 is an experiment I can do, which is what I was referring to in my other thread about Rods circuit. Some other common circuits on here are easily twice that for just the deck passives, which as an experiment I have more trouble justifying. Iím going to build Rods design, I think.
