Brrrr- it's cold in the shack! Fire up the BIG RIG

WWW
« on: January 26, 2020, 09:01:33 AM »

One fell in my lap - DOA. Trying to find out something more about two of the chips - what I have found by scope-ing and checking the pdf for the devices does not make much sense (so far).

Looking up the owner, turns out he is 87yo, his responses to emails do not indicate an interest in "supporting
the product".

So, anyone out there got one?

Heard you talking about it on 75. So was the chip pin out discrepancy a case of a mirror image of the chip?

Nah.
Mirror image of my so-called brain!

I was tired, logic synapses were compromised.
Sitting there I was LOOKING RIGHT AT IT.
BAMMMM!
Right in front of my eyes.
Brain could not make the obvious connection.
DOH!

Aka, "operator error".

The original unit had only the switch. What I wanted to do is to run my external rcvr (AM) audio through it and be able to switch AM<-->SSB. The output from my rcvr now goes to the BHI DSP noise reduction unit (I like it) which can be bypassed with a pushbutton, and it has a 3watt chip to power the speaker. So, a means to level match/control the SSB out level was needed.

I added the left knob, which is a mini Grayhill rotary switch for AM<-->SSB, the knob over on the right is an AB mini 5kohm pot for SSB out level control (replaces the on board level set pot). Put an RCA jack on the back for "EXT/AUX" audio IN (the rcvr). Then I machined a custom LED mount (below the switch) for a power indicator.

Voila! Only 2 minutes to visualize and about 6 hours to execute!
