The fourth annual AM Rally operating event is in four weeks!

0000Z Saturday February 1 - 0700Z Monday February 3

( 7:00pm EST Friday January 31 - 2:00am EST Monday February 3 )
( 4:00pm PST Friday January 31 - 11:00pm PST Sunday February 2 )

The annual AM Rally operating event, held on the first weekend in February, encourages all operators to explore amateur radio's original voice mode by showcasing the various types of AM equipment in use today ranging from early vacuum tube rigs to the newest SDR based transceivers.

"There's a noticeable surge in the use of the AM mode, partially driven by the growing attention manufacturers are giving to it over the past few years. Both new and experienced ops are discovering that AM can sound quite good, enhancing the enjoyment of QSOs. The AM Rally operating event provides a great reason to give it a try".

This event is open to any and all radio amateurs who are running full carrier amplitude modulation (standard AM), using any type of radio equipment. Modern, Vintage, Tube, Transistor, Software Defined, Military, Boat Anchor, Broadcast, Home Brew or Commercially available radio are encouraged to join in on the AM fun on the 160, 80, 40, 20, 15, 10, and 6 meter bands.

"Those who have never tried the AM mode will find plenty of help if needed. AMers are an inviting group who enjoy welcoming newcomers".

The 814s x 811s rig is ready to go, running a full 100 watts this year instead of 45 like last year. Have an antenna up that works a lot better too. Hopefully get a chance to get on the air during the rally.

There seems to be more activity each year, which is great!

If health holds up, will be there.  Viking II and HQ-170.  May use the homebrew rcvr if I go to 80 M.  813 rig still in progress.

That is a very nice looking pair of Morrows.  Don't see many of them around.  I'm East Coast, so I probably won't get a chance to hear them, unfortunately.

Bob Heil interviews ARRL Asst. Lab Manager Bob Allison (WB1GCM), Brian (KB3WFV), and Steve (WA1QIX) on this week's episode of Ham Nation (https://twit.tv/shows/ham-nation/episodes/438?autostart=true) to promote the 2020 AM Rally.

Questions about logging:
Are they going too use Steve's custom software?

Can logs be submitted in the standardized ADIF format?

Any info posted as to where logs should be sent?

The logging software is definitely better - at least for the AM Rally.

Not because ADIF itself is not good, but because the loggers typically don't collect (or don't save this data when exporting to ADIF) additional information such as what the person on the other end is using for a rig, sometimes the person's name is not there, or the location is buried, etc.

But, to answer the question - Yes, I can handle ADIF files if people send them in. I got a bunch of them last year.  However, typically a lot of information is missing.

I'll be on the air this weekend with the home-brew HK-54 X 811A and the T-368. 14.330 during the day and 1.945 at night. I might also work a bit on 40 and 80 meters. Should be fun.

I will also be operating as one of the flagship stations for the AWA AM qso party on Feb 15 and 16 using the callsign W2AN.

I plan on participating.  Not with any intentions of winning but just to do some AM operating while there are numerous other AM stations on air.

A 24-FET class E rig and a crystal controlled tube rig... neither of which is ready to go on the air, so I'll be using an Icom 7300.

(my 8-FET E rig is hiding in shame beneath the desk)

I operated class A5 on 75m and A3 on 40m. The majority of the contacts are A5. Should the log be split somehow or should I mark the whole thing as A5?

It's no biggie... just use the classification that was used for most of our contacts.   Thanks !!!
