Making AM GREAT Again!

« on: June 21, 2019, 03:41:28 PM »

About 25k feet up, and a half hour out.

Daughter is going to check out schools.  Going to Harvard and Amherst the next week.

What to do, what to do???

Cool thing the airline has (besides 10 megabit wifi)....

My wife and I agreed that if we ever make it back to Mass, we're going to go to our favorite fire brick oven pizza place in Northampton. It's a nice, quiet little hippie-college town.  The place is called Pizzeria Paradiso.

Anyway, sounds like you'll be near Boston.

Good luck to your daughter on the school search!  Also sounds like she'll do well.

Thanks Jon.  I wish I would have checked the thread earlier!

We ended up being tourists and hitting Bastian Mahkit for dinner.  A far cray from the ones in California, but it's always a good meal that sticks to the ribs.

We are pretty proud of her.  She's always done well in school and it's 100 pct due to her drive and intelligence. We support her, but dunno how she does it.  She's already toured the US for band, plays three instruments, was 1st chair for trumpet as a sophomore (which REALLY made some seniors and juniors unhappy!) and kept straight As up.  She's got a few major universities courting her and she will be a senior NEXT year!  To say we are proud is an understatement to be sure!

Anyway, after 24 hours of delayed flights and a trip back to BOS last night at midnight, we are awake and ready for coffee lol.

I have to say, the architecture here is beautiful.  A lot of it reminds me of San Francisco, surprisingly.  And I keep joking there sure is a lot of Cape Cod style homes around here 😉.

OK, let's have some discussion about Beantown's real name:

You are visiting
Bos-Tin

B-O-S-T-I-N

The long "A" has it's place, of course: consider the word "Khaki," as used in the folowin sentince:

Quote
"Dad, my bag's locked in the kåh, but now I fühgot where I put my khakis."

You see, its purfectlee clee-ah.

HTH. Ya mylige may vairee.  Wink

Not sure how much time you will have but you might take a ride down to Plymouth, 40 miles south of Boston on Route 3. If you have more time get off Route 3 at Route 228 in Hingham and follow it to Route 3A and the go south. The ride thorough Hingham is a very pretty as is the ride south on 3A to Plymouth. I grew up in that part of the state and have sisters and cousins in towns that border Plymouth.

If you want to visit a good Radio Museum which is an hour south of Plymouth on Cape Cod, check this out.

Worth the visit, I've been there a few times and wanted to go when I was in MA last month, one of my high school friends lives near there in Falmouth on Cape Cod but like most of Cape Cod it is closed out of tourist season

Be careful. My son went on one of those college tours in Boston and never came back. He went to grad school at that little technical institute across the street from Harvard. He complained about the weather but stayed there for work. He finally moved to New York City -- better weather!

There are some really fine schools out here in the Wild West. One which shall not be named (not my alma mater, Go Bears) often ranks higher than Harvard in many disciplines.

Jon

PS: I used to go to Boston regularly for work. I still love the place. However, my favorite museum there picked up stakes and moved west quite awhile ago https://www.computerhistory.org/
