I was going through some old pictures from 2001, and found this - the first 1kW solid state pulse width modulator I ever built.  Unbelievable that it actually worked, but it did and I used it for quite a while before laying out PC boards.

Amazing !!

When you consider what stray inductances and capacitances can do, it amazes me all the more!

my experience has often been that a prototype (as in your example) works perfectly but the following pilot run doesn't

Looks like something I had on the bench 2 weeks ago.  Mine had less components but more clip leads.

Yep:  Murphy was sitting on my shoulder; the clip lead version worked, the soldered together version with the same identical components didn't.

Can I show this in Ham Nation as to how to start a project?   Of course it worked!   I do believe each of us have done similar things before and each of
them amaze us how well they work !

Keep that soldering iron close by and hot.

Show that pic to the XYL and tell her that you are going to do the same.

Show that pic to the XYL and tell her that you are going to do the same.

Do this after you have picked out the new transmitter but before purchasing it. As a way of 'running it by the XYL'.
