Brrrr- it's cold in the shack! Fire up the BIG RIG

WWW
« on: December 10, 2018, 04:02:10 PM »

Many know and heard a broadband RF "digital" sounding noise that was about 40+kHz wide centered
about 3890 from Saturday night through 9:00 AM eastern time this morning, Monday.

Using TOAD and WebSDR receivers a few hams DF'd it to first the Harrisburg vicinity +/- 100miles,
and then to State College PA.

It looks like it was emanating from a college building on the campus, based on information developed
by Mike K3FEF.

I personally called the FCC this morning and the field agent who answered the phone related that they
were "aware" of the issue, and were working on it. Then he called back to say that the signal had stopped.
Which, we knew... Cheesy

The signal was heard just about everywhere east of the Mississippi, how far south, I am not sure. I personally
had reports from 8 land and 9 land...

Figured that a thread would be in order, in case anyone develops further info, or heard the signal...

I was on the air at the time - listening at that very moment, and the noise went off very shortly (a minute maybe) after 9:00 this (Monday) morning.

Most likely there were phone messages, emails or perhaps even some personal notes waiting for whomever was in charge - and probably arrived at work at 9:00 or perhaps a few minutes earlier.

Anyway, it's gone and that's a good thing !!!!

Many many thanks for the folks who chased this down, located the source, called the FCC, etc. etc.

Me too! Including how they settled on that frequency to run it.
