Well, it had to happen, a KWM-2, PM-2 and 30L-1 was offered to me at an insne, low, price and I snatched it up. All working, with manuals and a Heil, studio grade mic. Not bad for a 300 dollar bill. Now to get the antenna back up and do some hamming again.

Great radio for SSB, No AM and CW modes suck. At least that’s what I always felt certain the Collins devotes will inform me of my ignorance. Saw several KWM-2 transceivers for sale at Dayton some as low as $400 for a working radio. I wonder if the market for Collins stuff is starting to turn down being the two working R-390 receivers that I brought only sold for $400 each and radios like the KWM-2 that were selling in the range of $750 a couple years back are now way less. Saw a nice 75A2 for under $200 and remember selling the one I had years ago for more.

Indeed, the market for the great old radios we lusted after as kids is drying up.  I recall the Gold Dust Twins in the "catalog section" at the back of the ARRL Handbook.  Later, as well the S-Line goodies seemed like a far-off and untouchable goal.
Now, as we get older and many start thinning out the radio herd, or just getting so cussed old that we can't lift the boat anchors without fear of hurting ourselves, there is less demand, and perhaps more supply coming out of shacks.   New radios for the non-AM crowd, the IC-7300 in particular, have taken their toll on later model rice box radios as well.
In the past decade, I have sold off radios and ham gear that belonged to two close SK friends, for the benefit of their families.  I am astonished at how difficult it's been to get what I would consider fair value for the radios but, to a certain extent, I'm still living in the past.  I have my own Gold Dust Twins and I like them a lot, but they don't take me back to my younger days.  The AM community is vigorous, but relatively small in numbers and getting older by the day.  And I have no illusions that my Dear Sweetie will get rich selling the Twins, if indeed she can find a buyer when I go beyond the ionosphere.
Love them for what they are, but the investment value has gone away.
