I've never heard any particular groups down there either, owls or otherwise.
Used to be quite a group down below 3730 Nick from the night they opened it up to fone in Dec 2006. Worked into Europe many times from the NC location. Activity dropped off in the past few years but I still get a Christmas card from Jean/F6AQK. There were times I worked him when he actually seemed loud!
Think I may have worked Martin once and almost worked Henk - too much noise that night.
IIRC, Jean said the group had to move up to 3710 due to interference from some German SSB ops. Guess some things are universal?
Will be curious to see what kind of signals are possible from the new location. Definitely have some tall trees, but its a RF-noisier environment than before.
FWIW, there were also a bunch of folks working European AM on 40m around 7160. Not sure if there's anyone still frequenting that part of the band from the AM crowd.
Correct!First we using 3705, but we got many troubles with SSB on 3703.
Therefore we moved to 3710 khz.
A pity we got again SSB stations on and close to the freq.
So we were going to the AM freq. (from Norway) 3660 khz!
First we had found a good and free freq. but....
You can guess... hi, hi.....
I did ask the UK AM Lovers if we may use their AM freq.:
3615 khz.We got permission... hi, hi....
These freq. is during daytime often in use by UK AM stations.
We (F6AQK, 9H1ES, PE1MPH) are only early mornings, in the weekend, qrv.
But it looks like.... the ssb stations are follow us...
Hi, hi..... but early mornings I can say in AM hello to stations in France....
Therefore I transmit and listen on the AM freq. in France
3550 khz.Yes I know it is in the CW part....
I think it shall be for us (AM Lovers) a big problem to find a good freq.
We are moving and moving to other freq. but always the same problem!
But if the conditions on 80 mtrs are better we can listen out on +/- 3885.
And we transmit on 3615 khz......
My first qso with the USA I did the same: I listen on 3885 but I transmit on 3705!
If you want, give us the most used AM freq. in the USA.
Mostly I listen between: 3875 - 3885 khz.
Those freq. are in my head and Memory Kenwood receiver.
On 40 mtrs not many AM activity anymore.
Some times AM UK on 7140 and in France on 7160 khz during the late afternoon.
Oh by the way, another problem....
Often I hear digitale mode around 3870 khz....
