I need to get the 'tennas back up at the cabin. Bow season is in and noontime/afternoon 40M radio is always fun between hunts.

New cabin coming along Hi Hi FB!

(now why does it turn the pix on its side?)

This weekend I'm framing in walls to close in the stairs. The table and radios will go against the wall outlined in the pix Steve.

The group just finished up around 3PM. Calls heard and/or worked here in northern VA:

 -WD8BIL
 -WB3FAU
 -KB2OUA
 -K4HX
 -N3TBW
 -N1BCG
 -W0VMC
 -N1HCE
 -WA1STH(or N?)
 -WA1HLR

And probably a few others I missed. Aside from a few deep fades and temporary band shifts, 40 was in great shape today - quiet overall, no interference, and stable conditions (for 40m especially).

Russ/FAU was probably the channel master for the most part, though Steve/HX was up to 30 over S9 just before we signed at 3.

Clark/BCG gets the award for Most Unexpected Audio with his IC-706. I wouldn't have known it was him without the call attached. Actually made me feel better about the stock Apache I was running.  Grin

Definitely a good group and a fun few hours of operating. If this is a preview of activity over the coming months, we're in for a great winter season.

Gah - fidelity? What fidelity?  Roll Eyes

TNX for the recordings, Steve - I can clearly see (hear) what Russ was saying about the Apache audio. Sounds to me like I still need to back it down a tad more, it's right there on the hairy edge. I can certainly see how it cuts through the interference!

We'll see if we can remedy some of the issues today. Johnny is coming over today. Hopefully we'll get one of the medium power rigs up and running.

Amazed with how good the propagation was around 1600 local this afternoon and that you guys actually heard my PW barefoot Central Electronics 20A exciter at 5 watts.  Hearing how strapping the mobile W2JBM ? was gave me some confidence the CE would be able to get through.  100 watt plate modulated command set mobile...l like his style!

Always impressed how much better low power gets out on 40 vs 75...I have a  near mint set of Heathkit AM mobiles Cheyenne and Comanche that I would love to run in the Tacoma on 40...but need to attend to some issues in the Cheyenne transmitter first.

One of my first retirement projects in about a year will be to build up a pair of 813s that will run AB1 linear and also Class C high level modulated to be driven by the 20A.  Have most of the parts, just never have had the time over the years.
