Picked up an older Spectrum analyzer at the Shreveport La. hamfest.  Deal of a price so couldn't resist, took a chance.  It turns out the front end was weak.  I added one of those wideband amps
sold cheap on ebay along with a homebrew antenna and now she works great.  "Sometimes a blind hog does find an acorn worth having."
