Jon,
I uploaded my DX-60 mods to transmitters topic as well.  The switches you add should
take the inrush current. RE solar, we have excellent solar here in AZ!  I was going to put solar on the
house, but missed the window to get it in.  I did get one panel, one micro inverter and it has
powered the shack for a year and a half. connected but behind a 1kw isolation xfmr.  I've collected about 1300w
of panels various sizes.  4x90watt panels easily run the Icom with the HB regulator.  what did you
do with the 3-500z amp?

I tore it apart and sold anything that was worth any value. I put the power supply and RF deck carcasses on the curb and a picker got them.  I'm sure they were probably wondering, "What the heck were these things?"

The plate transformer was from a BC-610, and I had a spare one as well.  I put both on Craigslist at a give-away price, and it still took a while to offload them.  Plate transformers aren't in high demand nowadays.

I finished with the function switch modification.  The switch on front has 3 positions:  Tune, Stdby, Oper (they align with the DX-60's original faceplate lettering, so I won't put tacky labels on front). The power switch and AM/CW switch are on back.

I also removed all the other wafer switches from the circuit. Everything is hard wired for 20 meters and the VFO as the input.

As I mentioned before, now the rig can warm up without ever engaging HV until you're ready to operate or tune.
