It looks like I have to replace the AFG Pot on the NC-300. From initial looking, I may have
to remove the panel to get the old Pot out and the new one in.

Any suggestions on panel removal ? Seems like a lot of things get dislodged when I do it.

Thanks for any tips,

Dick:
Take a look at this thread. It initiated as a "restringing the NC-300 dial" but there's lots of info on front panel removal.

Looks like "aspirin" might be in order after diddling with the front panel.  Smiley

Just read that thread, time to go to Plan B !!

I think I'll just get the old pot out, somehow and replace it without the switch.
I'll just permanently leave the RF Gain pot in circuit.

Thanks for the reply,

It isn't so bad... a fellow ham down the street from me swapped panels on two sets, only to find out that they weren't interchangeable between some years of manufacture.

Finally he put them back on original sets... I didn't watch him but he told me they were just an evening project.

Between us we have a couple of "spare -300's" if you need something but they do play and it would be quite shame to scrap them out.

I have fixed a "jumped" tooth on the chain drive... without removing the panel....

If you want he would be amenable to a call and chat. Let me know if that would help.

Thanks for the offer, but I might have an easier solution.

I have a couple of 1 Meg Audio Pots (without switches) that I can use as a replacement.
That RF Gain switch was eliminated in the NC-303 so I can probably do without it. Just
need to make sure I connect the leads up right.

Without the switch on the back, there is enough room to remove the Pot without removing
the Front Panel.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

Issue has been resolved. I removed the old AFG Pot and Switch, without having to remove
the panel. I left the RF Gain Control permanently in circuit, the NC-303 had done this, and
replaced the Pot with a new 1 Meg Audio Taper Pot.

Now the audio sounds much better, the AVC works again and after an alignment, the old girl
sounds more like she did years ago.

Thanks to all for the responses.
