It seems that most everyone abandons 40m AM and QSY's to the 80m AM windows as soon as the Sun goes down and the SWBC stations start coming in along the U.S. East Coast.  China Radio International pretty much takes over the 40m AM window frequencies after dark but I've noticed that they don't broadcast all night on any given frequency which leaves the 40m AM windows open for QSO's much of the time if anyone cares to hang around on the band.
For example, CRI's broadcast from Bamako, Mali wipes out 7295 kHz beginning around sunset here in South Carolina but they end their broadcast around 2357z leaving the window open for 40m QSO's after that time if anyone wants to give it a try.

CQing right now on 7275. Good long haul propagation, but no one home.

Lately, I've been CQing long after sunset about 2200-2300 UTC on 7.290/295. It's been rather quiet as far as broadcast stations are concerned at those times. I'd like to see more activity on 40 AM in the evenings. I've managed to snag a few QSOs, but it's been sporadic, here and there at best. In the meantime, I'll continue CQing and see what happens...

I've tried several times over the last week or so calling CQ between 8 and 11 PM EST around 7290. It's been very quiet. I finally go down the band and call CQ on SSB and make a contact.

Where is all this resurgence of AM activity I keep hearing people talk about  Huh
