40 is doing great!

Recorded off the SP-600 on 7.285 in the afternoon,  8/15/16 - WA1HLR and W2PFY

Yes, all you ever wanted to know about "Link Ray and his Ray Men".

Notice how the "kerchunk" of relays almost sounds like a spanking..  Grin

wonder if some of that is mechanical and some electronic. Very nice. No such joy with mercury contactors.

Nice recording Jeff! Nice to see (and hear) 40 meters propagating. Maybe the USAF has already begun its K4HX sanctioned cubesat plasma bombing project? By the way, Link Wray and his Wray Men are all over YouTube. Anyone who grew up in the 50's and 60's will recognize a lot of his stuff.

Hello Henk!

Yeah, the "Rumble" track is one of my favorites from that era. The live version (1974 Winterland) is also a treat!

Hope to work you on one of the bands soon.

Just got back from the camp after about 20 days up there. I never heard of Link Wray so I will have to investigate what I was doing in those days?

Sounds like I was really pounding into Jeff's receiver! Tim was a bit weaker but I think he was running about 25 watts and is much further away from Jeff"s location.

I am using a $30.00 Chinese condenser microphone and this is the first time I had heard it! Thanks! Both my Behringer B-1's have become intermittent and it seems humidity is the culprit?? It seems the B-1 of a certain vintage suffer from this problem. Does anyone out there have a B-1 purchased in the past two years and if so, how is it?

I did a quick YouTube search and Link Wray apparently did the first theme song for Batman?

Tim sounds really good for 25 watts.  Makes me not too concerned about my 40 meter class E rig that only does 50 watts... it's good enough.

According to Google Earth, Tim is 350 miles from Jeff and I am 225 miles so, yes 25 watts will do it if you have a good antenna system and that, Tim has. I have just a 160 meter ant system but I was running 350 watts depending on what meter I am using Grin Grin

About the Kerchunk, I notice that when I put the hammer down, the watt meter goes up to about 700 watts. I wonder what the Kerchunk would measure on a scope? Maybe a few KW's?

Ahh Terry sent me this. Yep Link Wray has always been one of my favorite instrumenstralists I used to listen to his music allll the time on the radio in the late 50s and 60s. I have gleaned much of his stuff from You Tube. I play it on Radio Timtron.
