They wanted a homebrew exhibit at this year's Radio Fest in Monterey so I hauled the Class E down there.  I didn't fire it up but did get the table on the way to the food.  Many hams stopped, talked, picked up copies of pages from Steve's website.  It was the star of the homebrew exhibit.

Poor Rod, KQ6F, had trouble getting anyone to look at his stuff and he's the guy who invited me.  Rod designs and builds high performance SSB transcievers which are just great. In fact his direct conversion phasing rig is the best sounding SSB rig I have ever heard:

But where are the meters?  Where are the lights?  How about some big switches?   And how about a carrier?

I'd say half of the hams didn't understand the class E even after I explained it.  One quarter were genuinely interested.  Probably one or two were very interested.  Most, 99 44/100%, said they didn't have the construction skills to build something like this.  Gosh.  It just isn't that hard ...

Yes the fiber optic interface is the key component I couldn't get when I
was playing with tube PDM. They were just too slow back then.
