Making AM GREAT Again!

« on: April 30, 2016, 08:09:13 PM »

Had a few sent here from Dennis,  TFO.

Said I'd measure a single turn,  and provide measurements for those thinking of fil chokes,  etc.

Measured on AADE meter,  1khz I believe is test freq.

Here's to hoping the data can help someone Smiley

What a picturesque way to present the data.  Neat !
What are the units, uH? , probably not mH for a single turn.

How did you get single turn; cut into the windings or just wrap a new turn around the outside?

Not sure that these cores are suitable for use other than pulse operation.

Best try to check into what the core material generally used is?
Ferrite cores are not terribly expensive, so I'd be cautious about using these. Ymmv.

You'll have to go to some 3rd world country for an unlimited supply, as that is where most of our dead CRT TV's and monitors are heading. TV's and monitors 'Scopes are a no no in the trash, these days. Even in the recycle bin.
"Special Pick Up""" YOU pay THEM to take it away. And they make the money on the precious metals on the PC boards
THEY claim they are getting rid of the lead lined CRT's properly..............

But good idea how to re-purpose the old faithful flyback xfrmr

The units are indeed uH.

The idea was presented on this board using a flyback torrid to make a filament choke. I somewhat scoffed at the idea but then Dennis said he had a few,  for the cost of postage.   I offered to single turn test a few and sent him funds to cover postage.

For the actual test,  I wrapped a lead through the flyback.   Prior to each measurement,  I zeroed the meter,  with the lead in as close to the same position as it would be when actually measuring.

Not scientific by any means,  but figured it may help someone.

I was going to add some data to it today,  freq dependant readings,  but feel pretty crappy,  so taking the day off from the shop.
