Contests definitely bring up the activity even for a RTTY contest.
Just captured this activity on 15M.
Where are these amateurs the rest of the time

I saw the 10 meter map earlier and it was just as busy. The 20M map is all covered in green lines and even 40M is hot with lots of U.S. and international activity.

And, this is for the most part is the CQ WW RTTY WPX contest. It's getting more and more obvious the amateurs have more incentive or desire to get on the air and contest rather then just idle rag chewing. And for many, it's a 3 day weekend.

Well, for me its a snow day. The Chevy Nogo rental is stuck at the bottom of my driveway, it's -2 below with 22mph winds, no beer in the house, but I feel fine. I'll probably be stuck 'till Monday.
