A similar circuit, called a "whistle stop" was a common modification for crystal controlled Aircraft transmitters in the 50s and early 60s.   It allowed the pilot to simply switch on the whistle stop switch and tune the receiver to the transmit frequency.   Much simpler than hunting for the desired tower, FSS, intercom, or ground control frequency.   Works well.
