From the ARRL web site dated 4/1/15:

"Amateur Radio’s point man at the FCC is retiring. Bill Cross, W3TN, officially a “program analyst” in the Commission’s Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (WTB), is stepping down on April 3 after nearly 4 decades at the FCC. Many radio amateurs have had the opportunity to meet Cross when he conducted the once popular Dayton Hamvention Amateur Radio forum...

...Looking ahead, Cross said he can see a day when may be only one Amateur Radio license class. “Do we really need three license classes anymore?” he asked. “I can see in the future the number of license classes decreasing again — to two or maybe one — because the differences really are not that much.”...

I prefer "Value-Added" or "Primary"

"Extra" as a noun, depicts something in addition to what is usual; as an adjective, more than is due, usual, or necessary.
"Extra" could imply you're really not necessary, sort of like saying, "I have extra washers".

Good for Bill.  I had a chance to meet him when we participated in the Thomas Point Lighthouse event in 2001.   Hopefully he will have a good retirement.   I also informed him of a relative of mine, Dave Fell who was licensed as W3TN.  Dave's son was a Ham, but did not have interest in acquiring his Dad's call - W3TN so that is when Bill got the call.

Three classes? That's either racist, sexist, or some other kind of discrimination. We want our rights and we want them now! The government must pay for such blatant liberal fluff.

why not have only ONE class?  While we're at it why even have an exam? Licenses for all, for FREE.  Why not sell radios and take EBT?  NOT!
