They had no humor when I told them I drove all the way from Georgia just to see the store...they said I would have to wait for Monday...  Huh

I never cared all that much for HRO.

I have dealt with AES for many years and find them to be great people to do business with.  No problems or issue with them.

The window blinds are reminiscent of Hallicrafters Green.

I've had business and cordial relationships with HRO, AES, and Universal Radio for many years. I found them all to be a great bunch of people to work and deal with on a number of different topics.

Much better looking than the "dump" in Atlanta.  Maybe that one has changed too by now.

I would add  R & L Electronics to that list.

It is about 5x the size of the one in Atlanta. The Atlanta store is ok and close by for me.

Can't add them (R&L) to my list since I've had zero dealings with them in past years. But I can add KJI Electronics (my local NJ vendor) and RadioWorld in Canada.

HRO subbed gear I ordered for something else which they felt was equivalent without notifying me.  Also when the price went down, they told me it was to much trouble to offer me credit back on my Visa card.

Never had those kind of problems with any other supplier.  They on multiple occasions just became a PIA to do business with.  I could site many other examples but will stop there.

Universal Radio is also a great supplier but I have found none better than AES.

Goes back a loooonng way if you want to cite examples. Grin
I forgotten until reading your story Joe.
First receiver I ever ordered myself as a young JN with summer work earnings was a pre-owned SX100 from Burghearts. They sent via REA Express an HQ-110ac and said the other rig was out of stock but that the one sent was equivalent and "just for me, the same price," Um Hmm.

I have bought several items from them.  I check all the suppliers mentioned when I get ready to order and so far no one has beat their prices and they have provided good customer service.

In my early days, I spent a lot of paychecks at AES.
Sure were plenty of places to get good stuff from back then, direct from Heathkit over in Philadelphia, Resco electronics was also close, there was a mom and pop shop someplace over in Philadelphia selling surplus stuff, B+W was still making stuff, radio shack and Lafayette were the local places, and there was Scotts surplus electronics on the 2nd floor of a deli, great place.
I got a Kenwood R1000 receiver, a 15 meter beam and rotor from AES, and lots of other stuff in my early days.

The one thing I do not like is the hiding of prices in the catalog. Otherwise OK.

Prices fluctuate with the yen for lots of imported amateur equipment. Printing a price in a catalog locks you into something that vendors don't like or want.
