There is a Yaesu FT 890 here at W1LYD.....It works on AM but when I push the SSB button, Nada...I'm hoping this is a problem someone has dealt with before and there is a fix for it...any suggestions?  I'm not experienced working on bamboo radios, but this seems like a nice rig ...worth giving it some attention...Thanks...Steve

Seems good to me, someone already did a good mod.

Well, upon further investigation today, It now only has TX output on FM...AM is RX only  It had AM output yesterday...SSB nothing...CW nothing.....I found a manual, So far it has provided no inspiration other than maybe to get the hood up and look for some bad ribbon connector etc....

They are hard to work on but it should be
pretty easy to diagnose. Sounds to me like Mixer
troubles. Remember the thing will use different IF
frequencies and stages and conversion schemes
depending on Mode.

If I had this issue I would use another
Rice box and ensure I could hear all the diff.
oscillators, for all the diff mixers. Could just
be a bad rock.  Your manual should tell what
mixers and LO's are used per Mode.

Flaky rocks are classic indicator of
"Variable" symptoms.  Those rigs are hitting
that age now.

The unnatural breathing pattern used on sideband to keep the watt meter swinging and keep others from doubling can cause health problems.

Listen to those without eyesight on ssb. They always sound much more natural.
