With the band being long often as of late, consider listening for the west coast guys on 3870. I just worked

 - W6BCN - Don -  Rialtio, CA
(2) 813 modulated by (2) 811A, BC-779

 - W7ISJ - Joe - Tucson, AZ
Globe Champ, SX-101, Dipole

 - WB6YEC - George - Lemon Grove, CA
Ranger/HB Amp, Full Wave ant

- AA7SJ - Marih - Tierra de los Muertos, AZ
Big Rig, Sky Hook

Great to hear you fellas. Where were the rest of my east coast homies?

That's the price you must pay to have a huge country estage far from the city center.

Lately, the band has been nutty. But keeping to tradition, the net control works out of state stations for the first 30 mins. while local propagatiuon is strong. The result is that by the time he gets to the local stations on the list, there's only time for 4 or 5 before the band goes long.  IMO, he should switch this around, calling local stations first.

FWIW, a site that provides astonomical, nautical and civil sunrise and sunset times, phases of the moon and other info undoubtedly handy for something.  Maybe the best nights for stealing chickens?

Use an "AM Courtesy Filter" to limit transmit audio bandwidth  +-4.5 KHz, +-6.0 KHz or +-8.0 KHz when needed.  Easily done in DSP.
