Err that's  a real PIA. At least you are safe and warm otherwise. The antenna can be rebuilt.

First, Cuss Loudly
Now collect some 10 gauge wire and a sewer pipe.
Wrap the pipe with 16-25 turns of RG213.
Run this choke at the feedpoint.
Use the 5/16" Black Dacron rope they sell at HRO.
That was my plan. Got it back up that afternoon by using my son's Bow & arrow to shoot a line over the tree.
I was lucky. I had Tina to call for help.
You gotta fix this!! Not having 75 will give you brain damage & turn you into a democrat!

:tfrag:  Remember Ed, "the best antennas are the one's put up in the winter time". I don't know why that is said because it's freaking cold out there. I have done it and the nice thing about putting up an antenna when it's only 8 degrees outside, is the fact that there are few bugs out to pester ya!! :minigun:

Grrr. QTH is a small intown lot. My neighbors tree which held up one of the legs snapped and as it came down it pulled everything with it. Ive been working 12 hour shifts,7 days a week and it will be like that until the end of March so having the time to erect is not there. Once I dig a path through the 5ft drift that has formed on the mast side of the house I may be able to pull the bent over mast up enough to put up something on a "temporary" basis. Even if its good enough so I can listen. Like Tolly wrote it may be a good thing because I never really liked the wire I had up to begin with and it might finally force me to put up something better.

Hi

Yes I cussed VERY loudly! Fortunately my family was asleep and did not have to hear it.   . As far as being brain damaged well.... that already happend. Thats great you were able to get back up quickly. I really havent enough room to stretch out a full dipole. What was up was a "shorty" 75m with loading coils   I would like to get away from that . Its really a tough spot for any kind of a good antenna. The only tree that was worth a damn is now laying under the snow in my neighbors yard. Ill figure something out but for now Im just gonna have to JS something.

If John Kerry had been elected this never would have happened.

I'd call Bush/Cheney and the cronies at Halliburton to get this fixed.

Better yet, Ed!  The fact he didn't know
you were using his tree demonstrates
clearly how negligent this man was in
maintaining his property.  As a result of his
negligence, not only have you sustained loss
of an antenna, but you've suffered monetary
damages as it'll cost money to replace said
ant.  Further, your enjoyment of life has been
diminished and undoubtedly you've suffered
mental anguish.

The only thing that'd make this even better
would be if you fell out of his tree and sustained
an injury while trying to JS a replacement antenna.
If he starts screaming about trespassing, tell him if
he didn't want you using his tree, he should have
put a 15 foot fence around it.

Heard you on last nite, Ed, and you were strong enough down here near Bal'more.

BTW IIRC there is a legal codicole (forget the term) that says if your neighbor allows you to use a portion of his property for a certain length of time, you then have a *legal right* to continue that use.  You see this occasionally when neighbors share a driveway but there is no easement, then there's a dispute between the two and the owner of the driveway tries to shut the other neighbor out.  Heard this on the Bruce Williams radio show - your mileage may vary.

Isn't that the right of "eminent domain"?

Ed - it's looks as if you picked up some extra property as well as an antenna support. I wouldn't tell him unless he sells the property, with cutting the grass and all that - hi! :tfrag:

I wish I could pick up some extra property so easy   As a matter of fact my parents when they bought their house,it boarderd a very large empty lot that contained some large oak trees and raspberry patches. 40 years later a developer purchased the property and set to build some condos (what else). My parents came home to find that the fence that had been standing ever since they bought the place had been torn down and new property markers were stuck in the ground almost up to the side of the house 30ft from where the fence was. The developer showed them a map that sure enough showed that the fence was on his property. Well in to court it goes and all it took were 40 years worth of photographs and tax bills to prove the fence was there before my parents bought the place and the judge found favor of my parents. Needless to say the developer went ballistic. The judge order him to replace the fence and gave him some advice about researching his future purchases.

Anyho. Yesterday I strung up some 450 ohm brown stuff just for fun. I guess it worked because I was heard. Well when I got home from work this morning I waited for the sun to come up and hauled out the ladder. I live in a ranch style house so the wind blew quite a bit of snow off the roof so footing was good. Armed with a hack saw and a wrench I cut the bent mast off. On the ground I cut off the most bent section off (about 5 ft). I managed to dig the dipole out of the snow and it seemed to have survived. Back up the roof I hauled the now 40ft? mast back onto its mount. Lucky for me there is no school today and my son gave me a hand hauling it back up. I jsed what was left of guy lines so it has some support.  The legs are in a vee. Took about 4 hours but its back up. Went to bed at 10 am and got up at 3.  Now test time. And I thought I was going to wait

Good deal, Ed!  What makes it even more impressive, you did it not only in the freezing cold, but in two or three feet of snow.  Will be listening for you!

  I sure hope that's true. Actually it seems to be behaving very nicely for a "temporary" lash up. I just got through shoveling the driveway and noticed one of the mended guys is flapping in the breeze so I have to climb back up there later. That should be good for at least another db.
