For those wanting to replace the 300 mA Selenium rectifier (RCT70, etc.), here is one approach.

Take a 25W vitreous Enamel resistor of > 5K and place two 1N5408 diodes in series across the leads.

Here is the Viking Valiant II-CDC with the brown T4 Mod transformer (secondary) lead on the left side and the white-orange-blue CW-AM switch lead on the right side.
