Does anyone know where a preferably free manual can be found for the Collins 310Z-2 FM 'exciter'?  CCA does not have this.

It is really a 10W FM transmitter in its own right, but fits into a larger 'transmitter' like an 831-D 2.5KW unit.

I have one here, want to attenuate or run the power very low to avoid trouble with Uncle Charlie and use it to play my preferred music in the house. However it needs to be fixed and checked first and I need to know where to put in the multiplex signal because it does not have a MPX board. It's been sitting here forever.

In exchange, if anyone wants, I have a really early and heavy RCA 10W FM TX/exciter with lots of tubes. Maybe an BTE-10B or MI-7015 or equivalent "direct FM modulator exciter".

Call Continental Electronics right there in Dallas.  They took over the Collins broadcast line, and marketed that exciter in a different color.

Patrick,
You can post this request on the broadcast discussion list, or I can do it for you if you want.

John,

Where is that list? I don't know that I'm a member there.

If it is convenient for you I would certainly appreciate it, but please do not go to a lot of trouble.

I just got a login for "www.broadcastengineering.info" 'the virtual engineer', but have not asked there yet.

Thank you,
Patrick

There are two broadcast discussion groups related to radio in USA that I know of. One is the list you mentioned, and the other is
http://lists.radiolists.net/mailman/listinfo/broadcast

Maybe they are the same, I dunno.

I just posted a request for the manual on the second list, and will keep you informed of replies. Usually someone comes through there, being a congenial and helpful bunch of engineers.

A broadcaster responded and will make a copy of his manual tomorrow for me. I'll get him to ship it to you though.

I just now e-mailed him, so not yet. Sorry I got so busy, just getting into the new job here. I am sure he will reply shortly with the confirmation of the spelling etc.

Thank you,

Did the guys at Continental just not help you?

Seems strange, since they built the silly things in your back yard.

I apologize, have not had time to get to a phone during business hours. New job is field work. Electronics in the forest, and interestingly in some enormous man made caverns.
